Lawrence man, 19, pleads no contest to charges stemming from bar fight

A 19-year-old Lawrence man pleaded no contest Wednesday morning to a misdemeanor battery charge in connection with a Jan. 22 incident at a Lawrence bar.

District Judge Kay Huff accepted the plea from Michael S. Campbell, who was initially charged with aggravated battery, a felony. Prosecutors in January accused him of striking a 25-year-old Lawrence man in the face during a fight just before 1 a.m. Jan. 22 at Cadillac Ranch, 2515 W. Sixth St.

The victim in the case went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by private vehicle, police said at the time. Huff is scheduled to sentence Campbell April 10.
