From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 27, 1987:
An unnamed Kansas University student had been injured after stopping to help a young boy who was involved in an altercation with three men on Kentucky Street. The 20-year-old KU student had been driving through the 1800 block of Kentucky at about 7:30 p.m. when he stopped to help the boy, who looked to be about 12 years old. As the boy ran off, the student asked the men what they were doing, and "they told him to mind his own business," said a police officer. "[He] then told them he would not mind his own business." One of the men produced a knife and cut the student on the leg, while another punched him in the eye. The student had then left the area and had driven to Watkins Hospital at KU, where he received five stitches for his leg wound and was released in good condition.
