25 years ago: KU, scientific community suffer loss of gifted researcher

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 24, 1987:

The Kansas University community was mourning the death of Takeru Higuchi, internationally renowned pharmaceutical chemist and chairman of Oread Laboratories. Higuchi had died about 7 a.m. on this date after having been hospitalized with cardiovascular problems the previous week. His contributions to physical pharmacy included the development of pills that slowly release medicine into the bloodstream. In spite of his impressive scientific achievements, Higuchi had always believed that his biggest contribution to the field was his students.
