Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. FUNdamental Softball: Learn the proper mechanics and techniques to playing softball. Premier soccer openings: KC Core Soccer of Lawrence is forming new premier teams in Lawrence. We are currently recruiting for U9 (2nd and 3rd grades) and U10 (4th grade) girls teams. Teams are being formed now with practices in Lawrence and league play in the Spring Heartland Soccer League. Softball registration: Lawrence Girls Fast Pitch Softball Registration runs Feb. 1-April 2 for all age groups — 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U. The 8U Division-Machine Pitch teams will be formed by individual registrations from schools and grades. 8U players must be 8 years of age or younger on Jan. 1, 2012. Cost is $65 per child. The 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U divisions will be Team Registrations. Fee: $900 per team. Player’s eligibility is determined by age as of Jan. 1, 2012. No more than 8 teams in each division. KU soccer camps: Kansas University will hold several youth soccer camps this summer. A Weekicks Camp for boys and girls in grades K-5 will run 9-11:30 a.m. June 11-15. A Day Camp for boys and girls grades 5-8 will run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 11-15. Girls Residential and Team Camps run July 13-16 and July 17-20 for girls in grades 4-12. Orchards Ladies: The Orchards Ladies Golf Club will hold its preseason meeting at 9:30 a.m. March 24 at the Orchards Golf Course,3000 Billings Parkway. Allen ace: Arly Allen used an 8-iron to score a hole-in-one on the 85-yard eighth hole recently at the Ochards. Con Henderson, Jerry Staab, Harry Peterson and Ed White witnessed the shot.

Orchards League: The Orchares Senior Men’s Golf League will hold its organizational meeting at 9 a.m., Friday, March 23, at the Orchards. Golfers ages 55 and over are eligible. Refreshments will be provided. For information, contact Ed White at 843-7456.

Eagle Bend League: The men’s golf league at Eagle Bend Golf Course will begin March 27 and run through the golf season with a break during August for weather. Play will be every Tuesday during the day or evening with a variety of games and prizes, including a match-play session during the fall. The league is available to all men 18 years or older. Entry forms are available at the Eagle Bend pro shop.

Relays volunteers: The KU Track & Field office needs volunteers for the 85th edition of the Kansas Relays, April 18-21. No experience is required, and volunteers will receive a Kansas Relays T-shirt. Reaney honors: Notre Dame freshman Emma Reaney earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 IM on day one of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The Lawrence native placed ninth overall and first in the “B” final in a school-record time of 1:55.67, lowering the mark from her prelim swim. Reaney scored nine points for the Irish. Earlier in the day, Reaney qualified ninth in the morning prelims session, just one spot out of All-America accolades, in a school-record time of 1:56.09. The time lowered her own school record from 1:56.42, which she set at the Big East Championships.

Houk baseball: Houk Baseball League (13,14,15) registration forms are available at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th Street as well as online at www.lprd.org Registration deadline is April 3. Fred Roll Workout: The Fred Roll Workout is schedule at Jayhawk Tennis Facility, 5200 Clinton Parkway, a beginning weight/fitness class offered by the former strength and conditioning coach for 22 Jayhawks sports. Class begins March 27 and registration at 5:15 and meets 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays with an optional class at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. This is a basic class for 7-12 grades, boys and girls groups and adults accepted. Class size is limited to 15. Expect gains in core strength, overall strength, flexibility, balance, vertical jump, acceleration, speed, change direction. Contact Fred at 785-331-8200.

Simien Challenge: Deadline to enter the second annual Wayne Simien Free Throw Challenge is noon Thursday, March 29. By participating, hoopsters will help support Family Promise of Lawrence, an inter-faith hospitality network committed to housing homeless families and Called to Greatness, a multi-sports ministry program that allows underprivileged youths a chance to play. Individuals, teams, and open divisions are welcome. Entry fee is: $10 for individuals, $50 for teams. Trophies, medals and prizes will be awarded for the most successful shots in each division.
