Missed opportunity

To the editor:

According to Bill Boyer (Public Forum, March 14), President Obama’s decision to have his children baptized by his pastor was a tacit endorsement of that person’s political views. I must have missed that point in my education, for I operated under the impression that baptism served as a covenant with God. In my few years as a pastor, I baptized several infants. I never realized that in doing so, my personal political views were being endorsed by the parents of those children.

Knowing that many persons in my congregations did not share my political views, I obviously missed some opportunities to set them on the right political path! I am grateful that Mr. Boyer has set me straight.
