Clinton State Park will be participating in a statewide State Park Open House on March 31.

On that day, vehicles will be able to enter the park, 798 North 1415 Road, for free. The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Annual vehicle permits, 14-night camping punch cards and annual camping permits will be available for a discounted rate. Live animal displays are scheduled, featuring snakes, turtles, frogs, lizards and fish.

A new computer reservation system will also be highlighted.

A cabin open house is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the site. During that time, people can receive information about the cabins and get a look inside the cabins on the site.

The park rangers at Clinton Lake are rude and very aggressive. You'll get a friendlier reception at any park in Missouri or on the Federal side of Clinton Lake. Until they reel in those thugs, I would spend my valuable time and money somewhere else. I don't go camping to be harassed. Even when they are in error, they are rude and unapologetic. Our most recent experience was when we camped at Clinton with our trailer. A ranger showed up and in a very rude and aggressive manner accused us of not paying because there was no receipt on the electric box. When we pointed out that he was looking at the wrong box, his response was "Well OK then", not something more appropriate like "sorry for treating you taxpayers who pay my salary like criminals". Reminds me of a trip I took to Russia back in the bad old days. Demand civility from civil servants by voting with your money.

Clinton Lake camping is ridiculous. The camping sites are so close together, you feel like you're on top of the campers next to you. I go camping to be relatively secluded, alone, and enjoy the outdoors. This is not possible most of the time at Clinton Lake. It feels more like a sleep-over that just happens to be outside. I like the trails, though. I always liked Kanopolis and Milton lakes better. Horsethief Canyon at Kanopolis is one of the best hiking trails in all of Kansas. I heard Clinton was a dry lake, too. Is there any truth in that?

Our boy scout troop has camped at the State Park and the rangers have been great with us. The staff in the office has been wonderfully friendly and even let me drive into the campground with a temporary pass to pick out our site. We camp in off season times so we're not surrounded by the party animals with the kids with us. Never a problem and we'll be back out there this week-end.
