From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 14, 1972:

The new Lawrence Public Library at Seventh and Vermont was about 85 percent completed, according to project architect Donald Robertson. As soon as the $1.5 million building was ready, which was expected to be around June 1, another contractor was to begin moving in library equipment and fixtures. About 30 days after that, the city’s 75,000 books would finally be allowed to move in to their new home. If all went according to schedule, the new library was expected to be welcoming patrons by mid-August. Library officials were happy about the facility’s new space, as it would have an immediate capacity for 140,000 volumes with expansion space for about 60,000 more. It was also to have about four times the available floor space of the old library at Ninth and Vermont, including an auditorium with a seating capacity of about 100.
