Jayhawks place at track nationals

? Kansas University long jumpers Francine Simpson and Andrea Geubelle took sixth and eighth places respectively on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Simpson and Geubelle, who scored four points total for the KU women’s team, both earned indoor All-American distinctions on their final jumps. The honor was Geubelle’s third of her career and Simpson’s second.

KU sprinter Diamond Dixon ran the top time in the preliminary round of the 400 meters.

Also competing Friday were Alena Krechyk, who finished 13th overall in the weight throw, and Paris Daniels, who finished 11th in the 200 meters.

The Jayhawks will continue competition in Day 2 of the Indoor Championships tonight. Geubelle, the top triple-jumper in the nation, will compete at 7:30 p.m. Dixon will run in the finals of the 400 meters at 7:55 p.m., and the women’s 400-meter relay team will take to the track at 9:40 p.m.
