A minor accident at 31st and Iowa streets Tuesday night involved four cars and mildly injured an infant, Lawrence police said.

A car driving on 31st Street failed to stop at the red light at Iowa, throwing a second car it hit into two further cars stopped at the light at about 10 p.m., Sgt. Randy Roberts said.

The driver of the first car and an infant that was in one of the two stationary cars that was hit were both treated on the scene by paramedics. Neither was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Roberts said a citation was a possibility for the driver who started the chain of events but as of Tuesday night, none had been issued.

"Roberts said a citation was a possibility for the driver who started the chain of events but as of Tuesday night, none had been issued." Odd that no ticket was issued at the time. Leaves room for bloggers to speculate on that one.

I almost ran into someone at the intersection the other day, because I was watching the Sears sign holder person fight the wind with the sign! Wonder if that happened here. Honestly, I think the sign holders for Sears, the mattress place, the tax places, etc are all hazards for distracting drivers.

Yes! My mother was in a very serious accident because she was distracted by a dancing tax prep guy. You don't have to ogle something for long to lose your focus. Time for networked robocars.

Since others are speculating on the cause of the accident, I will do so also.

I think it was caused by a failure to apply the brakes at an appropriate time.
