Bob Knight charity event ‘successful’

College basketball coaching legend Bob Knight, in Lawrence to work tonight’s Kansas University game in Allen Fieldhouse against Texas, spent five hours Friday night at Lawrence Country Club going to bat for charity.

Knight’s two recent appearances in Kansas — the first was in Manhattan the night before KU’s game against Kansas State — raised $40,000 for The Vernon Wells Perfect 10 Charity, which benefits single homeless women and single pregnant women.

“It was quite successful,” said Marc Valenti, Perfect 10’s chief financial officer.

Valenti said Friday’s event, which included Knight speaking and signing things that were auctioned off, was attended by 37 people. Manhattan’s event drew 26, Valenti said. Tickets to the event at LCC cost $650 per individual and $1,000 per couple.

Knight’s son, Tim, also attended the event.
