The state had been seeking to close the bar on the edge of the Kansas University campus as a “common nuisance.” Attorney George Melvin asked that the injunction be dismissed because the state had not presented evidence that “any unlawful act was carried on or allowed to be carried on” at the tavern.
  • Fishing conditions at Perry Lake had dropped from “good” to “fairly good” this week, but it was reportedly still a good source for walleye, northern and catfish. Water at the 12,500-acre reservoir 16 miles northwest of Lawrence as at the level of 891.95 feet above sea level.
