Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers chase man suspected of driving recklessly outside Little League game

Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers Monday evening chased a man suspected of driving a motorcycle recklessly in Linwood in the parking lot during a Little League baseball game, said Undersheriff Ron Cranor, a sheriff’s spokesman.

Cranor said officers after 7 p.m. Monday located the motorcycle and were told the driver was leaving the ball fields in a red Ford pickup truck. An officer stopped the truck near Third and Park streets, but the suspect jumped out of the passenger side of the vehicle and ran away.

Cranor said the suspect led officers on three separate foot chases as deputies would lose sight of him and then discover him again later. Eventually the suspect jumped a fence behind the Linwood Library on Kansas Highway 32 and swam across Stranger Creek to a wooded area.

Officers searched the wooded area extensively but did not find the suspect. Cranor said deputies believe he had a warrant for his arrest in Jefferson County related to a probation violation.
