Bonner Springs police seeking information in possible abduction at Lion’s Park Friday

The Bonner Springs police department is asking the public for more information to help determine whether a child was abducted Friday at Lion’s Park.

Lt. Rick Schubert said two 10-year-old boys reported seeing a white, bald male wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans grab a small boy around the waist with one arm, while using the other to cover his mouth. The boy was said to be about four feet tall wearing shorts and, per the two witnesses, had his hair styled in a “Justin Bieber haircut.”

The boys reported seeing this occur between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday. After grabbing the boy, the man put him in a white van with windows and drove away.

As of 11 p.m. Saturday, no additional information had come forward and no child was reported missing, Schubert said. He added that the two boys who witnessed the event weren’t supposed to be at the park at that time, which is why there was a delay in reporting what they saw.

At this moment, absent additional information, the department is not calling this an abduction.

“It’s just very suspicious circumstances,” Schubert said. “It could be a parent disciplining an unruly child. At this point, we’re not sure what we’ve got, but we’re sure the boys saw something.”

Bonner Springs police is asking anyone near the park at the time of the incident or those with additional information to call the department at 913-596-3000.
