Kansas thrower on academic team

Kansas University junior thrower Heather Bergmann on Thursday was named to the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-America Women’s Track and Field second team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bergmann registered a 3.91 grade-point average in her junior year as she pursues a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. In addition to being a standout thrower for the Jayhawks, she is a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 dirst team and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic list following the 2011 season.

Bergmann, who set KU’s javelin throw record at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in April, competed in her second NCAA Outdoor Championships meet two weeks ago in Des Moines, Iowa. She claimed her second-straight All-America first team honor with her sixth-place finish.
