Lawrence police arrested a man for attempted robbery Friday evening after he was accused of trying to steal a woman’s purse in an apartment building at the 1800 block of West 26th Street. Sgt. Troy Squire said police responded to a call from a woman saying that a man had tried to steal her purse out of her hands while she was in the apartment building. The suspect had fled when police arrived on the scene, but officers found and detained a man matching the caller’s description 40 minutes later and a half block away from the crime scene. The man, in his mid-20s, was arrested after questioning for attempted robbery.
