Green Wish, a Los-Angeles-based environmental group, is launching a Kansas chapter with a free event at 7 p.m. June 21 at the Oread Hotel, 1200 Oread Ave.

The group will raise environmental activism awareness and funds for environmental groups in Lawrence and Kansas City, said Victoria Bogner, president of the Kansas Green Wish board of directors. The board will have its first meeting earlier that day and begin the process of deciding which groups to fund. The event will be hosted by actor and co-founder Raphael Sbarge. More information can be found at their website.

Great, another group sucking up tax dollars while putting nothing into the system.

What a day for celebration. Get your bongs and pacholi oil...lets have a party.

Cant_have_it_both_ways , where in the article does it say or imply this will be using tax dollars?

This is flyover Kansas, not one of the coasts. The "environmentalists" here are poor . Good luck raising any money.

You've got to remember, that these are just simple farmers, these are people of the land, the common clay of the new west. You know . . . (from a source)

The Oread Hotel is not a proper venue for an environmental group!!!

Joe Hyde 2 years, 10 months ago

Interesting point. My suggestion would be that they junk the Oread Hotel idea and instead organize a group overnight canoe camping trip on the Kaw River. You know, everybody get down where the rubber meets the road.

Hello! To comment on previous comments: 1. This organization isn't funded by tax dollars. 2. It aids local green non-profits and initiatives so they can focus on doing the good work they do in our local community. 3. The Oread Hotel is a sponsor of the event and donated some of its facility to Green Wish. 4. This isn't a political organization - it has nothing to do with Obama. Republicans can be green, too. 5. You can learn more at www.greenwish.com.

Welcome! But just to help your group acclimate to KS, the representatives of the know-nothing/do-nothing conservatives have been fact-free for years. Perhaps there is hope for them, or we just have to work around 'em.

Hello and thank you! I've lived in Kansas all of my life. It's a wonderful state with fantastic local green non-profits that could use help to sustain the great work they do, and I'm excited for Green Wish to raise awareness of them and extend them support.

overthemoon, there are plenty of knowledgeable conservatives whom you would discover by dropping the us-versus-them mentality and looking for what you have in common with others. What good is all the talk of diversity if you condemn those who see things differently? I look forward to supporting my friend vbogner in her endeavor to brighten our world!

Ducks unlimited is an environmentalist group.

Following "common sense" the members of Ducks Unlimited must stink and spend their time "talking about Obamas [sic] accomplishments". They must also "suck up tax dollars" and suck on "bongs". After all, "you can't have it both ways".

Just what we need here, with electric bills skyrocketing, gas prices rising, and other utility bills advancing, more wackos out to destroy the energy suppliers, commercwe and industry to save some stupid frog or blade of grass. Sounds like a good deal to me!!

Yeoman2, what are you doing to improve the situation? Did you read vbogner's comment above? Have you looked at the Green Wish website? Or are you just complaining because that's all you're good at? And if you're feeling misjudged, that's exactly what you're doing to my friend Victoria.

If we could use ignorant comments like yours as an energy source, then we'd have an easy solution to our energy crisis.

I think its a great idea. If people would go read the site, they would understand what their about and maybe they would know that the group is trying to help.

poor kansas....full of the loudest, dumbest, hand our resources over to the barons kinds of clowns.....now go watch hannity, o reilly, or some other airbag talk about the dumbest lowest common denominator nonsense and make fun of smart people.....

cardboredbox 2 years, 10 months ago

We need more green organizations in our communities. Resources are getting lower, and, quite frankly, air quality sucks. I'm tired of looking out my window and not being able to see downtown in the summertime! The thought of it getting any worse scares me.

I don't want KS to turn into another LA. Let's nip the damage in the bud, before it's too late.

And seriously. How hard is it to plant a tree, or recycle your soda cans? Turn off the lights in a room you're not using? How about save a little water?
