25 years ago: Liberty Memorial High School Class of 1942 enjoys reunion in Lawrence

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 8, 1987:

Former students of Lawrence High School’s predecessor had recently celebrated the three-day 45th reunion of Liberty Memorial High School’s class of 1942. About 95 of the class’s 205 graduates, along with their spouses, had attended the event. Wearing specially-designed T-shirts, the group had enjoyed a Friday evening reception followed by a Saturday full of activities such as a double-decker bus tour of Lawrence and a buffet supper at the Eldridge Hotel. Class of ’42 member Elaine Taylor of Lawrence, who had helped plan the event, said that the classes of 1941 through ’43 had been especially tight-knit due to the war, and that several graduates of ’41 and ’43 had attended the reunion as well. Two of their teachers had also joined the reunion — Lowell Bailey, geometry, and Walter Russell, English — and some class members had visited their English and Latin teacher, Gertrude Ruttan, at Presbyterian Manor.
