Police seeking southwest Lawrence burglary suspect

Lawrence police are asking for help in finding a burglary suspect who was chased away from a southwest Lawrence home by waking residents about 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said the victim reported a suspect entered the home in the 3400 block of Aldrich Street through an unlocked rear door. One of the occupants awoke to see the suspect entering a bedroom, and a second resident then chased the man away.

McKinley said the suspect was described as a black man in his late teens or early 20s with a skinny build and average height. The suspect was carrying a dark-colored backpack. He was not located in the area, and it appears nothing was taken.

McKinley said the general description was similar to other recent aggravated burglary reports in the city in which a suspect entered someone’s home overnight through an unsecured door.

Police asked anyone with information on this crime to call detectives at 785-832-7430 or the Douglas County Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 785-843-TIPS (8477).

“Rewards of up to $1,000 are being offered for information leading to the arrest of a suspect,” McKinley said.
