Area high school graduates honored as scholar-athletes

Eudora’s Derek Webb and Alex Whitten, and Lawrence High’s Anthony Buffalomeat are in select company.

The three Douglas Countians are among 13 May high school graduates chosen as scholar-athletes by the Sunflower Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

In addition, Eudora’s Gregg Webb has been tapped winner of the Don Fambrough Coach of the Year award.

All will be feted at the chapter’s annual recognition dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 13 at KU’s Anderson Family Football Complex.

Other prep honorees are William Mitchelson and Jesse Newcomb of Pittsburg St. Mary Colgan, Alec Maly of Wichita Carroll, Alexander Furst of Salina Central, Jacob English of Beloit, Jesse Hiss of Basehor-Linwood, Robert Riederer of Holton, Jerome Roehm of Hutchinson, Michael Glatczak of Centralia, and Derron Reddick of Council Grove.

The chapter will also honor long-time high school football official Terry Kenny.

Congrats Lawrence High’s Anthony Buffalomeat. This is a 'real' honor and award acknowledging those that truly worked hard without favoritism of coaches!
