Law enforcement report

A 38-year-old Lawrence man reported to Lawrence police Tuesday afternoon that the previous night he saw a man inside his garage burglarizing a car in the 900 block of Summerfield Court.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said the burglary occurred at 11 p.m. Monday while the residents were out for a walk and left the garage door up. Upon their return, they discovered the man inside. The man ran away, and the residents considered not reporting the incident because nothing was taken, McKinley said.

Police in recent weeks have warned residents about making sure garage doors are closed and doors to their homes are locked after dozens of reports of suspects entering homes while residents are asleep.

On Wednesday night, police also fielded two separate reports of prowlers. The first was at 8:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of Harper Street when McKinley said a person reported seeing a man peering into the window of a female resident’s apartment. The suspect ran away, and police did not locate him. The second one occurred about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday on Winterbrook Court in west Lawrence after a resident saw a suspect in the backyard near a window. The suspect fled when a motion light came on, McKinley said.
