25 years ago: Pocket park planned for downtown

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 24, 1987:

  • Bulldozers had begun clearing the lot just south of the Eldridge Hotel this week, preparing the site for the installation of a “pocket park.” Developer Rob Phillips said that the park would probably be finished by mid-August. Tentative plans were calling for the installation of benches and the planting of grass and trees.
  • Lawrence residents looking for a good movie this week had the following choices in local theaters: “Dragnet,” “Full Metal Jacket,” “Roxanne,” “Jaws: The Revenge,” “Robocop,” “Adventures in Babysitting,” and “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.”
