From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 21, 1987:

• Members of South Junior High School’s Drill Team were excited after having been recruited by a production team to appear in the movie “Kansas,” being filmed this month on location in the Lawrence area. The girls had been approached during last week’s Sidewalk Sale, where they had been running a booth to raise money for their organization. The team was told to keep three days in mid-August open for the filming of a parade scene in Valley Falls.
• The Lawrence City Commission got an earful from members of the Oread Neighborhood Association at one of a series of neighborhood meetings being held this summer. Oread residents spoke on issues such as code enforcement, zoning, parking, traffic, snow removal, site plans and utilities.
