25 years ago: South Lawrence residents speak up for trafficway

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 16, 1987:

About two dozen residents from the Schwegler, Centennial, and Indian Hills neighborhoods had met informally this week to air their opinions about the proposed south Lawrence trafficway. Saying that much of the talk from other neighborhood groups had been negative, they spoke up in defense of the project, saying that the trafficway could bring relief to growing traffic safety problems near their homes. Tom Mulinazzi, a research associate for the Kansas University Transportation Center who lived at Bardith Ct., expressed his certainty that the road would help alleviate 23rd Street traffic congestion.
