Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. FUNdamental Softball: Learn the proper mechanics and techniques to playing softball. LHS fall sports meeting: The Lawrence High fall sports informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 5 in the LHS auditorium. Fall sports forms may be submitted at the meeting. Notaries will be available. The fall forms deadline is Aug 9.

Junior volleyball camp: Lawrence Juniors Volleyball Camp will be July 30-31 at Free State for ages 10-16. Any child interested in club volleyball or just wanting to sharpen skills for school tryouts is welcome. Henrickson tourney: The eighth annual Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament will be Aug. 25 at Alvamar Country Club. Registration for the event is available for singles, pairs and foursomes. All proceeds from the tournament will go to Kansas University women’s basketball and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center. The event includes a four-person scramble at 1 p.m., followed by a dinner and live and silent auctions at 6 p.m. Prizes will also be awarded for best four-women team, best four-man team, best four-person mixed team, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one. Recruiting combine: The eScout4u Football & Soccer Recruiting Combine will be July 21 at the Eudora District Stadium. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with testing to follow at 9. Flag football: NFL Youth Flag Football will be offered for grades K through 6 with games in Eudora, Baldwin City and Wellsville. Price per participant is $35. Free State fall softball camp: The 5 Tool Softball School (grades 4 through 8) is taking registration for the camp that will be offered at Free State High School this fall. Riley ace: John Riley of Lawrence recorded his first hole in one on June 30 at Deer Chase Golf Club in Linn Creek, Mo. Riley used a pitching wedge for the ace on the 141-yard No. 16 hole. Bob Case and Brian Lawrence witnessed the shot.

Vipers tryout: 14U Lawrence Vipers girls softball will hold a tryout at 10 a.m. Saturday at Broken Arrow Park’s field No. 1. Vipers are looking for girls with 1998-99 birthdays for fall and next season; pitchers, catches, outfielders are needed, but all positions are welcome to try out. Higbie hole-in-one: Gary Higbie used an 8-iron to fire a hole-in-one on the 129-yard No. 3 hole recently at Eagle Bend. Brandon Womack and Bryn Womack witnessed the shot.
