“Big Brother” (8 p.m., CBS) returns for its 14th season. A fixture of the summer schedule since 2000, this year’s “Brother” will feature four returning participants described as “four of the most successful players of all time.” Julie Chen hosts.

• The new product-placement series “Top Spot” (9 p.m., Travel) borrows liberally from the HGTV series “House Hunters,” as well as from the fairy tale of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” On each “Spot,” would-be vacationers are whisked off to three sumptuous locales and shown the glories of Miami Beach, island resorts or the culture of London. At the end of the show, the lucky players get to choose their favorite destination. Viewers at home can play along and try to guess which resort or destination is deemed just right.

• “POV” (9 p.m., PBS, check local listings) presents “Guilty Pleasures,” a look at the worldwide popularity of romance novels. We meet readers from England, Japan and India who devour bodice rippers, as well as Gill Sanderson, the author of more than 50 novels, who churns them out from his trailer park home in England’s Lake District. We also spend time with a model whose handsome face and chiseled torso has graced countless paperback book covers and whose search for a soul mate has been affected by the implicit messages of the romantic fantasy genre.

This whimsical film includes some darker overtones about lingering too long in the vicarious realm. “Pleasures” is sometimes condescending to its subjects, but never deliberately cruel.
