Firefighters extinguish blaze at business on Clinton Parkway Court

Firefighters discovered flames Monday morning while responding to a fire alarm near Clinton Parkway and Kasold Drive.

Division Chief Eve Tolefree, a Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical spokeswoman, said crews were sent at 6:47 a.m. initially to an alarm at a business, Kemira Water Solutions Inc., 3211 Clinton Parkway Court, when firefighters saw the flames and smoke showing through a first floor window. Crews had the fire under control at 7:09 a.m. and Tolefree said Monday afternoon investigators determined the electrical fire caused $20,000 damage.

Tina Addington, Kemira’s customer service supervisor, said the fire was contained to one office inside the building, and the office mostly had smoke and water damage. The business, which houses 13 employees, was open Monday.

Addington said one employee was working in an upstairs office when the company’s alarm system called 911. The employee made it out safely, and others were arriving at work at that time. Two fish inside a tank in the office perished in the fire, Addington said.
