Police take two into custody, use Taser subduing fight

Police used a Taser on one man and took another into custody after responding to multiple fights outside of Shots Bar, 1008 Mass St., at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Lawrence police Sgt. Anthony Brixius said officers responded to a disturbance call outside of the bar. When they arrived, the original disturbance had ended but another fight began. Brixius said an officer used a Taser to subdue one individual.

Shannon Sprowls, a Kansas University student, said she witnessed the event, which happened as the bar closed.

“There were issues between one of the waitresses and one of the other girls, and they started screaming at each other, and guys got involved then it erupted from there,” she said.

Sprowls said a number of men began to fight, and a bouncer was hit in the face as he attempted to break them up. Afterward, police officers arrived and another fight began. According to Sprowls, police took a man and a woman into custody.

Brixius said that the two in custody would likely be charged with disorderly conduct and possibly battery.
