From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 31, 1987:

Two new lime-green pumper trucks had been delivered to the Lawrence Fire Department and were ready for their public unveiling. The trucks each weighed 34,720 and were capable of pumping out 1,250 gallons of water per minute, according to Fire Chief Jim McSwain. A welcoming ceremony for the trucks was to be held at Fire Station No. 3, 3708 W. Sixth, and was to be attended by Mayor Sandy Praeger and city commissioners. “They are everyone’s trucks and we want to give them a chance to see them,” said McSwain. The two machines had cost $293,906 and had been manufactured in Appleton, Wis. They were replacing two older trucks made in 1960 and 1968 which were to be placed into reserve service.
