40 years ago: KU student robbed in parking-lot tunnel

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 30, 1972:

An armed robbery had recently occurred in the tunnel between the “Zone X” parking lot and the Kansas Union. Kansas University Traffic and Security officers reported that Salina senior Richard Tripp had entered the tunnel at about 7:30 p.m. and was accosted by two men, one of whom held him at gunpoint while the other struck him with a 10-inch hunting knife. When he had resisted their demands for his wallet, the man wielding the knife had cut him, after which he had surrendered his $23 and credit cards. The student had followed his assailants long enough to see them run to a car and escape; he was able to give a full description of them to the police as he received treatment at Watkins Hospital for a cut to his left hand.
