‘Big Event’ looking to help community

Kansas University students are again looking for members of the community who could use some help cleaning up their yard or need some windows washed.

A day of community service called “The Big Event” is back for a second year. KU students are willing to help members of the community with all manner of odd jobs and household chores as a way of saying “thank you,” said Emily Lamb, a Lawrence senior and outreach coordinator for The Big Event.

Any member of the community or nonprofit organization can go online to thebigeventku.com and request to have a job done, Lamb said. Students will be reaching out to community members directly on Saturday, Lamb said.

Last year, 500 students helped at 100 different sites. Lamb said event organizers are hoping to triple those figures this year.

Forms requesting jobs are due Feb. 24. Students interested in volunteering should register by March 2. The event is scheduled for March 31.
