— Georgi Funtarov scored 20 points, and Khadre Lane scored 13 as the Seabury Academy boys basketball team lost to Blue Valley, 68-44, on Saturday in the seventh-place game of the Indian/Viking Classic.

Seabury went 0-3 in the tournament against bigger schools, losing by five points to both Kansas City Wyandotte and Shawnee Mission North.

“We struggled, but we kept the first two games within five points,” Seabury coach Ashley Battles said. “We don’t shy away from adversity. We did an acceptable job.”

Seabury (2-7) will play Wednesday at Pembroke Hill.

I understand playing the tougher schedule to get ready for the 1A state tournament, but the 2-7 record can't be good for a teams confidence.

I would hope that a "team" with all this talent would be able to get by a winless Wyandotte team. And how tough should it be for a team with multiple DI prospects to beat any of those teams they played. I mean none of those teams even came close to having a winning record. I think your coach has some explaining to do

Where are all the people that said BSA was the best team in the city?! Looks to me they are the 4th Best: LHS, FSHS, Veratas, then BSA.

Some real dumb comments!!! Battles is a fine coach. The kids are high level and different kind of players for the 1,2,3 A levels. They are good and dynamic players, but at LHS or FSHS they would fight to play and when/if they did they would have much better role players surrounding them. I’m a Veritas guy and haven’t seen em play this year but I suspect that BS is on a higher level and could fight with the two bigs on a good night…as well as get smacked if their guys weren’t meshin.
