Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. Vipers looking: Lawrence Vipers are looking for girls with 1997/98 birthdays for a 14U C softball team. The team is looking for all positions. Baseball signups: Lawrence Parks & Recreation is taking team entries for the 2012 Heinrich League & Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association season. To register, stop by Holcom Park Recreation Center or go online at www.lprd.org to download a registration form. LPRD will accept the first eight team entries per age division. Soccer squads forming: KC Core Soccer of Lawrence is now forming new premier soccer teams in Lawrence. We are currently recruiting for U9 (second and third grades) and U10 (fourth grade) girls teams but will consider players of all ages. FSHS fundraiser: A fundraiser for Free State High’s baseball and softball teams will be held 6-11 p.m. Jan. 28 at Alvamar Country Club. The adults-only fundraiser will include live and silent auctions and a trivia night. The funds raised will go toward the construction of new indoor batting cages that both teams will benefit from year-round.

Aquahawks clinic: The Lawrence Aquahawks and the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center will host a “USA Olympic Swim Clinic” from 10 a.m.-noon on Jan. 29 at the Indoor Aquatic Center. Olympic gold medalists Josh Davis and Ian Crocker will be at the pool and in the water performing small-group personal instruction on champion performance and technique. Swimmers will be able to ask questions of the Olympians, take pictures and get autographs. This clinic is open to all ages 5-18. To reserve a spot, call Candy at 785-423-1223.

Love 2 Run: The third-annual Love 2 Run-Lawrence will be held at 9 a.m. Feb. 11. The USATF Certified four-mile couples-themed run will start and finish at Free State High. Participants can enter as an individual or as a couple. Registration/packet pickup will be at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports from 3-6 p.m. on Feb. 10. and 8-9 race morning in the Free State gym. FUNdamental Softball: Learn the proper mechanics and techniques to playing softball. Softball fundraiser: Free State High softball will hold its annual biscuits-and-gravy breakfast fund-raiser from 8-11 a.m. on Jan. 28 at the FSHS cafeteria. Cost is $5 at the door, all you can eat. Coffee, milk and orange juice will be provided.
