Library offers free financial fitness classes

Is fiscal fitness at the top of your priorities list for 2012? Lawrence Public Library is poised to help.

The library, 707 Vt., has organized a series of free financial wellness clinics running through spring.

All clinics run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays in the library auditorium and include free child care provided on-site. Individuals can register for the entire series or per class.

The clinics:

  • “Pay Yourself First: Creating a Household Budget and Sticking to It,” Jan. 24.
  • “Getting Out of Debt, Saving and Investing,” Jan. 31.
  • “Frugality 101: Buy More, Spend Less and Curb your Budget without Clipping Coupons,” Feb. 7.
  • “Be Prepared: Establishing an Emergency Fund,” Feb. 21.
  • “Saving and Investment Basics,” Feb. 28.
  • “Setting Goals and Achieving Your Financial Dreams,” March 6.
  • “Choosing Investments Wisely and Practicing Good Habits,” March 13.
  • “Love and Money: Avoiding Financial Stress in your Relationship,” March 20.

Clinic instructors are: Anju Mishra, a HUD-certified comprehensive housing and consumer credit counselor; Toni Detherage, a licensed social worker; Jenn Hethcoat, a family and frugal living blogger.

I would hope all that voted for the new library will attand. Or at the very least go to th session on "Choosing Investments Wisely and Practicing Good Habits,” March 13."
