Taiwan official to be sentenced in KC

? An official from Taiwan is scheduled to be sentenced later this month in Kansas City on a federal labor violation charge.

Hsien Hsien Liu is a former director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kansas City. She pleaded guilty in November to fraud in foreign labor contracting, admitting she mistreated and underpaid two Philippine housekeepers in her Johnson County, Kan., home.

As part of a plea agreement, Liu paid a total of about $80,000 in restitution to the housekeepers.

Liu is scheduled to sentenced Jan. 27 by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays. The plea agreement seeks to have Liu sentenced to time served and then deported immediately.

Her lawyer has said if the judge doesn’t accept the plea agreement, Liu will withdraw her guilty plea.
