Topeka ? Gov. Sam Brownback wants to use revenues from new casinos in Kansas to pay off the bonds that financed the parking garage at the Statehouse.

The proposal to dedicate $10 million in gambling revenues to retiring the debt is part of the budget Brownback outlined Thursday.

Brownback wants to use nearly $70 million in casino revenues to make bond payments or pay debt off early. A new state-owned casino opened last month in Mulvane, and another is scheduled to open in February in Kansas City, Kan.

The $15 million Statehouse parking garage was completed in 2004, and about two-thirds of the original debt remains.

The garage’s construction was part of the ongoing renovation of the Statehouse that began in 2001 and now has a total cost of $319 million.
