Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback campaigns for Rick Perry

January 3, 2012

— Gov. Sam Brownback is helping Texas Gov. Rick Perry in his final push to win the Iowa Republican caucuses.

Brownback was an early supporter of Perry’s presidential bid. He endorsed the conservative Republican after attending an August prayer rally in Houston hosted by the Texas governor.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Brownback was scheduled to appear at a pro-Perry rally Monday evening at a hotel in the town of Perry, Iowa. Brownback also planned to remain in Iowa to speak on Perry’s behalf at a caucus event today.

Two of a kind. Wonder how many times Sammy has been down to Texas fishing at Ni__erhead..

overthemoon 6 years, 5 months ago

Too bad, I don't think Brownback is going to get to be VP. He's gonna have to stay in Kansas and take the heat for the mess he's made in one year.

Stuart Sweeney 6 years, 5 months ago

King Sam should get his butt back in Kansas so the rest of the world doesn't know what we have to deal with!

question4u 6 years, 5 months ago

Perry has clearly shown that he does not possess the intellect to be president. Even children recognize his gaffs. Strategically, support of Perry in the primaries equals support of Obama in the general election, since a squid could beat the tar out of Perry in a debate.

The question rises yet again, "Does Brownback see some crafty angle that he thinks will further his career, or does he really believe what he says?" Either answer is scary.

Matthew Herbert 6 years, 5 months ago

Intellect has nothing to do with becoming president. Were you around from 2000-2008?

Paul R Getto 6 years, 5 months ago

Ya know, you folks pick on old "W" too much. I did some of that myself, but mainly on policy matters. George wasn't stupid, just incurious, a byproduct of certain ideologies.

Bob Forer 6 years, 5 months ago

Agreed, he wasn't stupid. But then again, he was not the sharpest tool in the shed, either. I would characterize his intellect as "unremarkable."

Sam only ran for Kansas Govenor because he saw his best chance to ever be elected as President or Vice President of the US was through the govenor's office. His original plan was to be nominated as a Presidential contender. When that failed his next opportunity was to kiss up to one of the actual contenders as a VP running mate. Now do you understand why he is endorsing Perry? The fantisy continues, until God gives him his "calling", which I think is ex-govenor of Kansas and out of politics. He will then become a Preacher.

meggers 6 years, 5 months ago

I expect him to run again in 2016. I think that is largely the reason he is making so many radical changes in Kansas. He's trying to bolster his credentials at the expense of Kansas citizens. Perry did the same in Texas.

Bob Forer 6 years, 5 months ago

Sadly, I have to agree with you meggers. Fortunately, I think his chances of winning the nomination are slim to none.

In booths come November, perhaps enough folks will recall our governor's endorsement of Gov. Perry's doomed presidential bid and see it for what it is:

Our governor embraces rigid political beliefs and autocratic governing methods more befitting the era of Industrial Robber Barons. And if he and other like-minded executors of those beliefs and methods are not rejected by voters, they will remain in office and soon damage more of the social and environmental advancements Kansas has made during the last 60 years.

Congratulations! This modification has been accepted.

grimpeur 6 years, 5 months ago

Ever heard of the "Family" and their activities in Uganda. Brownback is one of them.

Yes, "put to death is" appropriate. That's what he'd like to do to some people whose lifestyles he rejects.

We don't hear much about the "Family," though. I wonder why not.

Paul R Getto 6 years, 5 months ago

Good point: Sam has been involved with the CStreet Cult since the late 1970's, but he doesn't talk much about them now. The "policy" you brought up is one of their nastier initiatives.

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 6 years, 5 months ago

Sam is a self-serving jerk, but he appears to be reasonably intelligent.

Perry is also a self-serving jerk, but he also appears to be pretty clueless.

Hear from a person that knows over the holiday - "The Governor is not very smart. He gets his directions for the Koch bothers." Frightning......

yourworstnightmare 6 years, 5 months ago

I would welcome a Perry-Brownback ticket to run against the President.

Perry-Brownback for the GOP nomination!

rhd99 6 years, 5 months ago

Hey, Perry and Brownback, go jump in the Potomac River and cool it. You are the weakest links..g-bye!

Jan Rolls 6 years, 5 months ago

Heard on the trail, "I can't vote for perry if that nut from kansas is backing him."

thebigspoon 6 years, 5 months ago

It's amazing how you can take these comments, each of which expresses quite positively that Perry/Brownback can not be elected, even by their "own party", and twist them to mean there's "panic and paranoia" in the ranks of the reasopnable. You have no ability to see the truth in any discussion about Brownback, and have quite an ability to pull the blinders over your own eyes at the first suggestion that your "savior" is not invincible. Sorry for you, as you will never, I fear, see the truth of his politics and the inner meanness of his personality.

Yadda yadda yadda.. More from the guy who told us that America was NOT ready for it's first Black President. We also cannot wait for the GE. Can't wait to hand him another term.

If Romney is the GOP'er nominee, and would somehow wins the General election. I wonder what he would seel to pay off the debt. He could let Texan go and ask for a buy out like the Big East is asking of West Virginia. Romney could let the Mormons buy Utah, no one would miss it. Since selling off assets is how he made his money I am sure that is what would happen to the USA. He won't sell Kansas, we aren't worth anything.

How does that old saying go.......flies of a feather flock together

This article should not be posted under Kansas government.

Governors who pray publicly together, flock together.

Politics today is simple logic at work and sound bites work best - more difficult refute and so affordable due to their brevity. You know stories like when birds fall dead from sky because the Kenyan Obama is responsible for creating class warfare and income inequality when he was a tiny child and dreaming of being a Socialist/Fascist,Dictator and ruling the USA with an iron fist - just like Margaret Thatcher. It is logical and Faux Nuz says so, and besides, it is all just_math so not to worry. Just keep putting lipstick on the pigs and go back to sleep. If Perry were to be hoisted into the Presidency(hoisted, would be his only chance) it would be the best thing for the dumbing down trend in America and might actually take it to it's collective knees. Third World status officially achieved!!! A round of Tea P anyone?

Fred Whitehead Jr. 6 years, 5 months ago

Read in Matthew about how Jesus told his foloowers to pray. Are you listening Governer Perry and Governer Glory Hal Lay Loo Yah???

beatrice 6 years, 5 months ago

Well, that should really give the Perry campaign the boost it needs.

If only one person shows up in Iowa to support you, is that a cauci?

Fred Whitehead Jr. 6 years, 5 months ago

Governer Hair and Governer Glory Hal Lay Loo Yah!!!!!!!!! What more could the good Christian folks who are arch Conservative, Theocratic, fans of Puss Bimbo ever hope to see!!!! What a glorious day for God and Country. Amen!!!!!!!

"I am a Texan and I am not ashamed to say so."

Translation-- you have no shame.

Texas-- a state founded on the principle of "Lebensraum" for white folks who wanted to own black slaves.

A pair of Reich-wing dimwits trying to feather each other's nests. Charles Dickens said "God bless us all, each and every one".

Nelly 6 years, 5 months ago

Ya'll better quit talking about Brownie. The principle is going to call you to the office and order you to write a letter of apology.

Joe Hyde 6 years, 5 months ago

This is just Republican party partisan humor by Speaker O'Neal. No reason for anyone to suffer heartburn. Pretty clever and funny, actually.

The only thing that upsets me is that his email, which presumably he addressed to only his political friends as a means of lightening the mood with a bit of humor, his email somehow got intercepted then made public, where it's now subject to misinterpretation. Jeez, he was just making a joke.

(I'll still be voting to re-elect President Obama, though. And that ain't no joke.)

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Not from Obama's campaign

Best read if you have a pic of a jeri curled Samuel L. Jackson in your mind....

Much like I was against Sebelious campaigning for Obama, I'm against Brownback campaigning for Perry.

His job (as was hers) is to govern the state.

Sunny Parker 6 years, 5 months ago

Anyone that can honestly say they want Obama for another term has got to have a major screw lose!

Steve Jacob 6 years, 5 months ago

Economy is on the mend and we are out of Iraq. Good enough reasons to vote for him.

Shelley Bock 6 years, 5 months ago

I'm here with a screw lose then. Do you honestly think that either Romney or Santorum or Paul or whomever is now running for the Republicans, can beat Obama?

deec 6 years, 5 months ago

That's okay, Brownie can jump on over to the other crazy horse, Santorum. Same guy, only with a different accent..

50YearResident 6 years, 5 months ago

Perry and Brownback, I am sorry to announce, you are the last team to finish and you have been eliminated from the race! YooHoo!
