25 years ago: Judicial building already having roof problems

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 29, 1987:

  • The decade-old judicial building at 11th and Rhode Island was having serious roof issues. According to county officials, the leaky roof would have to be replaced soon, before damages were increased by more rain. “Waiting another year is not a feasible possibility,” said County Administrator Chris McKenzie.
  • Lawrence customers of KPL Gas Service were facing a possible $24-a-year savings in their electric bills if the Kansas Corporation Commission approved the currently proposed rate reductions. The new rates would have made the cost of electricity approximately 8 percent lower than in the summer of 1983.
