Former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell to deliver this year’s Dole Lecture

The Dole Institute of Politics has selected former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell to deliver the 2012 Dole Lecture.

The lecture is set for 7:30 p.m. April 4 at the Dole Institute of Politics, 2350 Petefish Drive.

A Democrat from Maine, Mitchell served as majority leader in the U.S. Senate from 1989 until 1995. He most recently served as U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace.

He has also served in a number of other roles, including leading an investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball, serving as chairman of a commission investigating allegations of impropriety in the bidding process for the Olympic Games and as the independent overseer of the American Red Cross Liberty Fund, which provided relief for Sept. 11 attack victims and their families.
