40 years ago: Students describe plans for Hashinger Hall

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 27, 1972:

A committee of 15 Kansas University students had recently met to expand their plans for developing Hashinger Hall into a residential creative arts center. Students were to pay an additional $50 per year to live in Hashinger in order to finance the renovation of 13 rooms on the first floor, part of the cafeteria, the main lounge, and the lounges on each of the floors. Five of the 13 rooms were to be converted to music practice rooms, two double rooms were to become a painting and drawing studio, two rooms were to become textile studios, and three were to be devoted to crafts such as ceramics, silversmithing, and glasscutting. A wood shop, sculpting area, architectural studio, dance studio, and photography darkroom were also in the plans, and the main lounge was to become an experimental theater for films, plays, recitals and lectures.
