Veritas girls win consolation game at state tourney

February 25, 2012

— The Veritas girls beat Olathe Christian, 34-22, in the consolation bracket of the KCAA state tournament on Friday night, avenging two losses to Olathe Christian in the regular season.

Veritas plays today at 11:30 a.m. in Wichita against Derby Invasion for the consolation championship.

Allison Dover scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds, and Ellen Phillips scored 10 points with eight rebounds for Veritas (6-16).

“Allison and Ellen really did some good things inside,” said Veritas coach Kevin Shelton, “and our shots started to the fall in the second half.” Veritas outscored Olathe Christian 24-12 in the second half.

“Our defensive effort was probably the best we’ve had in a long time. Their full-court pressure — we did the best we’d done against it all year,” said Shelton.
