25 years ago: USD 497 chooses name for new school

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 24, 1987:

  • Lawrence school board members had decided at the previous night’s meeting that “Quail Run” would be the name of the school being built on Inverness Drive, just off West 15th Street. The elementary school was scheduled to be open for the 1988-89 school year. The board had also had their first formal discussion on their possible responses to state aid cuts to the Lawrence district.
  • Two Lawrence scientific groups, Oread Labs, Inc., and the Center for Bioanalytical Research at Kansas University, had both reached joint research agreements with a Japanese company. Oread Labs had entered into a three-year agreement with the Shimadzu Corp, Kyoto, Japan, for cooperative research on instrumentation development. KU’s CBAR had entered into an agreement with a U.S. subsidiary of Shimadzu for joint research on highly sensitive optical detectors.
