Lawrence man, 28, indicted on federal gun charge

February 23, 2012

A federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kan., has indicted a 28-year-old Lawrence man on a federal gun charge, according to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office.

Eric A. Reed Jr. is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after having a felony conviction. Reed was arrested early on Dec. 9 near 15th and Iowa streets and accused of firing a gun from a vehicle outside Taste Lounge, Bar and Grill, 804 W. 24th St. He was charged in Douglas County District Court with aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm. According to the indictment, he was convicted in 2008 in Douglas County for attempted criminal possession of a firearm and cocaine possession.

Douglas County prosecutors dropped their charges so federal authorities could pursue a case. Reed faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the federal charge.

In honor of equal law enforcement.......I'm sure Grissom would wish nothing less. ;-)

Lewis Parsons is one of the criminal witnesses in the YH trial of C Neighbors. He is/was a felon in possession of fire arms and selling drugs as a felon..... time and charges he got did not include federal charges for those acts..he got less than 9 mos severed and is again free and has been since may of last year. The arrest of Parsons was was made by LPD and used to convict the YH owner, C Neighbors.

Grissom needs to arrange for a grand jury to look at this activity of allowing a felon to sell drugs and carry guns without any charges brought by the arresting and investigating LPD. Apparently Grissom can claim that his office had no knowledge of this infraction by the LPD.

If the YH can prove their claims this will rock the world of quite a few legal system careers.

"he got less than 9 mos severed"

I don't know what his "mos" is but it had to hurt when he lost it.

Good job Douglas County this is how gun control laws work. We have enough laws, now enforce them.

Spread the word 10 years is a long stretch.

Awwwwww, I get here too early to see someone comment that this story is a reason why students should be able to carry concealed firearms on KU campus and/or that this story has something to do with Obama's failed policies.

It is so disappointing that the conjoined twins of Obama hatred, FHNC and it's just math, did not fire one across the bow to let us know this whole thing happened because Obama and his kids are personally responsible for gasoline prices going up at the pump. Never would have happened if everyone was carrying a Desert Eagle in their back pocket. Is that a piece in your back pocket or is it a cheek implant gone rogue on you? Oh, I forgot Obama took all the guns/ammo away with his personal Muslim Brownshirt Army plus more, even before he was elected and did not have a valid birthserferticket. Dang, where is a voter ID when you need one? This whole business would have never happened if every man woman and child had been carrying concealed - everywhere. If all potential good people had guns, there would be no need for the Po-lease. How many guns is e-nuf? One, plus all the other'ins you got. Favorite bumper sticker: My other guns got no brains either.
