Lawrence police arrested two people early Tuesday morning after two separate incidents, one in west Lawrence and one downtown.
Kim Murphree, a police spokeswoman, said police were called just before 3 a.m. to the 2500 block of Morningside Drive about a domestic disturbance after an argument became physical. Police arrested a 30-year-old woman on an aggravated battery charge after she was accused of using a chain as a weapon.
The victim was treated at the scene for bruises and laceration, Murphree said.
In the other incident, police arrested a 36-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man on an aggravated assault charge around 5:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street after he was accused of speaking aggressively to a woman in the area and holding a large tree branch in a threatening manner, Murphree said.
The woman told police she was approached by the man as she was walking to work. When a vehicle passed by she saw the man turn his head and she ran to the building where she was employed to call police.
The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.

Did the Mass. Street assailant look somewhat like the Geico Neanderthal man, since he was displaying tendancies yielding a tree branch as his weapon!

good for the woman, She kept alert. I am glad she is safe. Thanks to the police for catching the guy. Good work, they must of been fast to respond.

If he took the tree branch from a downtown tree, the scumbag needs to pay for the tree and/or pruning and do some community service. Thousands of dollars are spent on the trees downtown, planting, trimming, removing and re planting. I have seen too many times people hanging from the trees, breaking off limbs and destroy the trees. Why?
What kind of mother raised a child to destroy public property?

Given the political leanings of some posters here, they will advocate he be paid for his pruning services or else it's just another example of "the man" exploiting the labor of the 99%.

are you just looking for sh*t to complain about?

Well I hope your mother isn't threatened by a thug with a club.

Maybe if the trees had better soil content and drainage, they would be stronger. Maybe we should spend MORE money on them to ensure adequate food and water are reaching the root system.

oneeye_wilbur do you have concern for the woman or just the tree ?
oneeye_wilbur 1 year, 2 months ago
concern for the dimwit that had the limb, I would say he is now "out on a limb" or is one of the "limbs'" from Vito's $50,000 stock of firewood?
I would bet that the limb came from a tree and was broken off from the tree by Dimwit~

Oh Really???
Did I not read last week were the LJWorld posted the name of a Lawrence Police Officer who was arrested and hadn't been formally charged yet?????
Either print all names of those arrested like the other newspapers do or follow your own policy LJWORLD!!
