40 years ago: Some KU employees form picket line

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 21, 1972:

Employees of the Kansas University buildings and grounds department were protesting a lack of salary increases since November 1970. Officials reported that 69 department employees were missing from work this morning and about 30 of these were at the picket lines that had been set up across campus. Signs and flyers available at the picket line stressed the “inequities” in the state civil service salary structure and requested “that the entire pay structure … be raised so that wages paid by the state are competitive in the labor market.”
