About 1700 residents in Douglas and Leavenworth County are without power after Monday night’s storm.

As of 8:35 p.m., the outage has affected 1631 Westar Energy customers in Leavenworth County and 76 in Douglas County. Lawrence residents have been affected, and 50 to 500 customers in Tonganoxie do not have power, according to the Westar website.

Leonard Allen, senior communications representative for Westar, said lightning caused the outages. Allen said he expected power to be restored around 11:00 p.m.
