County Commission to hear plan for senior housing

Wednesday, Douglas County commissioners will consider a proposal from Tenants to Homeowners to turn an empty, county-owned lot into moderately priced senior housing.

Tenants to Homeowners are eying about half a city block of land near 25th Street and Cedarwood Avenue.

United Way, which is adjacent to the land, used to be a county-owned nursing home. The county bought the land behind the United Way building in the 1960s with the thought of one day expanding the nursing home.

Tenants to Homeowners, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide affordable house, would like the county to donate the land. The commission will consider the organization’s proposal at its 6:35 p.m. meeting.
