Fayetteville, Ark. — Kansas University sophomore Diamond Dixon placed third in the women’s 400 meters at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, finishing in a time of 53.17 seconds. She finished .44 behind first-place Regina George of Arkansas.

Two Kansas men’s runners finished one-two in the six-man field in the college-division 5,000-meter run. Freshman James Wilson (14:37.74) placed first, followed by senior Josh Baden (14:44.91).

Two KU competitors won field events, Allison Mayfield the high jump (1.73 meters), and Nick Giancana the high jump (2.11 meters). Nick Canton placed second behind Giancana in the high jump (2.06 meters).

Demi Payne placed third in the women’s pole vault championship division, vaulting 4.22 meters, or 13 feet, 10 inches.

Sophomore pole vaulter Alex Bishop will start the Jayhawks off today, at 10 a.m. in Fayetteville. The men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relays teams will also compete today.

Turcotte runs team-best time

Seattle — Kansas University junior Tessa Turcotte was the only Jayhawk in action on Friday in the Husky Classic at the University of Washington.

Turcotte placed 34th in the women’s 5,000 meter race with a KU season-best time of 17:37.43.

The Jayhawks will return to action in the Husky Classic today at 11 a.m.
