40 years ago: Lawrence schoolchildren spend day on the job with Dad

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 7, 1972:

  • A photograph showed Woodlawn students Peggy Davis and Sonja Gilbert observing Peggy’s dad Raymond Davis adjusting a television set at the Kraft Furniture Store. According to the caption, fifth- and sixth-graders spent a recent morning “with their fathers on the job as part of the World of Work program.”
  • In Topeka, the Senate Judiciary Committee had voted 5-4 to kill a bill that would have created a drug abuse division within the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Although the KBI currently had such a division, it was funded entirely with federal funds. The bill had been designed to formally create a “drug division” within the bureau under state law.
