25 years ago: Burglar gets away with dozens of boots

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 5, 1987:

  • An aide to U.S. Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan, said today that federal funding for highways, including the planned south Lawrence bypass, had a good chance of surviving a Congressional conference committee. Money for the 14.3-mile bypass was included in both Senate and House versions of the highway bill.
  • A burglar had thrown a 27-pound rock through a plate-glass window at Gordon’s Boots Center, 2449 Iowa, and had then gotten away with 40 to 50 assorted men’s and women’s boots. Oddly, the burglar had only taken the right-footed boots that had been on display near a wall in the store.
