The following students were named to the 2011 fall semester Dean’s List at Iowa State University in Ames. Students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours.

McPherson College has announced its fall 2011 Honor Roll. To qualify for the honor roll, students must be a full-time student and earn a GPA of 3.55 or higher during the previous term.

Cordley School won the second-place trophy in K-5 at the Onaga High School Chess Tournament Jan. 28 in Onaga. In K-12, Lawrence High School’s Thomas Peterson and George Wedge earned the 11th- and 12th-place medals, respectively. In K-5, Cordley’s Liam Hoey-Kummerow claimed third while Prairie Park’s Kenna McNally came in sixth.

Simerun Singh, of Lawrence, is participating in “Whitman Teaches the Movement,” a partner project between Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., Walla Walla Public Schools and the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. The goal of the project is to increase awareness about the civil rights movement among elementary school students. A group of more than 100 Whitman College students will be teaching classes in local schools. Singh is a 2008 graduate of Lawrence High School. She is a senior politics major at Whitman.

Emporia State University has released its Honor Roll for the fall 2011 semester. To qualify, students must earn a minimum 3.8 semester GPA in at least 12 graded hours.
